About Learning to Shape Birmingham

Learning to Shape Birmingham is an event organised by Birmingham Headteachers, for all who lead Birmingham schools, whatever the type or phase.

After the launch in 2016, the conference now returns annually in September.

An annual Birmingham Headteachers conference is a well-established tradition. Last year saw Birmingham Education Partnership, Services For Education and Link2ICT join forces to bring to Birmingham Headteachers a very successful conference focussing on collaborative school improvement, great leadership and best practice in classrooms

This year, we are again working together to bring you a rich and powerful programme. This is designed to inspire and inform as we seek to grow our culture of collaboration to improve Birmingham schools together. We are responsible for the experience the pupils have when they are in our schools. What can be more important than taking time out to think together, to be challenged and inspired about our curriculum choices? Both strategic and operational across two days, this year’s conference is offering school leaders substantial, timely and practical input.

On day one, we have a series of outstanding keynote speakers, including Andy Buck, Simon Topham, Jim Roberson and Mary Myatt. Mary will provide coherence throughout and will begin and end our conference by exploring questions around curriculum purpose and leadership that matter to us all.

On day 2, we are excited to welcome internationally acclaimed speaker, Andy Hargreaves. Andy is a world expert on effective collaboration and school improvement.

Following Andy, there will be a packed programme of workshops to choose from with distinct strands of Leadership and Governance, Curriculum and Inclusion.

With the workshop structure of day two, we are again opening this day out to wider leadership teams. The cost for these additional delegates has been set at the lowest possible price.

This year the conference will also be useful for Governor training and development. We are working with BCC School & Governor Support to ensure  a selection of workshops  that also grow Governor understanding.

The conference as always, offers us all the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across our city. We are very much looking forward to seeing you there and seeing what we can achieve together.
