Daniel Locke-Wheaton

Principal, Aston University Engineering Academy

Daniel has a background as National College Fast track STEM teacher and Advanced Skills Teacher, followed by over 12 years in Senior Leadership positions in Birmingham’s City Schools. From 2008 – 2011 Daniel led the DFE’s Independent State School Partnership project in Birmingham, linking schools across the city to promote STEM teaching and Learning. From 2007-2013 Daniel has worked with Waterloo Schools Charity, supporting the development of Education and STEM training in Sierra Leone. 

Daniel is Principal at Birmingham’s UTC – Aston University Engineering Academy (AUEA) and Aston University Sixth Form. This included establishing the first national UTC apprenticeship programme. Now in its 8th year, 92% of AUEA’s students graduate into STEM undergraduate courses and apprenticeships double the national average for schools.  

Daniel sits on boards and advisory groups with education, including Birmingham City Council’s Employment and skills, Director for Titan Education Partnership and Baker Dearing Trust Lead Principal Advisory Board.
