Jim Roberson was born and raised in New York and at an early age was recognized for his sporting talent which was instrumental in him becoming the first African American child to attend Bronxville High School in New York.
Having secured a full athletic scholarship at the University of Rhode Island, where he studied Economics, Jim became a major player in their successful American football team and played in the 1981 Championship team. Drawing the attention of the Hamilton Tigercats, Jim was drafted to play professionally in the Canadian Football League where sadly his career was cut short due to a serious back injury. Jim returned to URI as a coach and subsequently was invited to the UK as an American football coach. During this time he trained to become a senior teacher with a reputation for being able to transform the attitudes of students.
